Women Drivers AvailableA genuine differentiator in our region. Female patients who prefer a woman driver can always count on Waypoint to accommodate.
Same-Day ResponseEvery call, text, and email answered the same day — always. Fast, honest communication is our #1 service commitment.
Waypoint was founded by Keval Shah, an Eastern NC native whose family has deep roots in rural healthcare. He witnessed firsthand how unprofessional, unreliable NEMT operators were failing the patients who needed transport most — elderly, disabled, and Medicaid patients missing life-sustaining appointments because their ride simply didn't show up.
Waypoint was built to change that standard: institutional-grade reliability, technology that keeps families informed, and drivers who genuinely care — delivered with the heart of a neighbor, not a corporation.
Reliability — we show up
Dignity — every rider matters
Responsiveness — fast answers
Community — Eastern NC first
Coverage Area
Serving 11 Eastern NC Counties
From Greenville to Goldsboro, from New Bern to Plymouth — if you're in Eastern NC, we come to you.
Everything patients, families, and healthcare partners ask us most — answered.
Does Waypoint accept Medicaid?
We are actively working to become an approved Medicaid NEMT provider in North Carolina. Until then, we serve private-pay patients. Contact us to discuss pricing — many patients are surprised how affordable the rates are.
What's the difference between ambulatory and wheelchair transport?
Ambulatory transport is for patients who can walk but need a reliable, professional ride — ideal for dialysis, chemotherapy, and specialist visits when driving isn't an option. Wheelchair transport is for patients who use a manual or power wheelchair and need a vehicle with a hydraulic lift or ramp for boarding. Stretcher transport (coming soon) is for patients who must remain lying flat the entire trip — post-surgical or bed-bound patients.
Do you transport patients to Duke or UNC hospitals?
Yes. We transport patients to major medical centers across North Carolina including Duke University Medical Center (Durham), UNC Hospitals (Chapel Hill), Vidant Medical Center (Greenville), and other out-of-area facilities. Long-distance and out-of-county transport is available — call (252) 227-0097 for scheduling and pricing.
How far in advance do I need to book?
We recommend at least 24 hours in advance to guarantee availability. For recurring rides such as dialysis or chemotherapy, we'll set up a standing schedule so you never have to book again. Same-day rides are available — call (252) 227-0097.
Can a family member or caregiver ride along?
Yes. A family member, caregiver, or personal care attendant is welcome to ride along at no extra charge in most cases. Just let us know when you book so we can ensure proper seating for everyone.
Can I request a female driver?
Yes — and this is one of the reasons patients choose Waypoint. Many women and elderly patients are more comfortable with a female driver. Request it at booking and we will accommodate based on driver availability.
Are drivers background checked and certified?
Every driver undergoes a full criminal background check, motor vehicle record review, and drug screening. All drivers hold active CPR and First Aid certification and complete our NEMT driver training program before their first ride.
Do you serve all 11 Eastern NC counties?
Yes. We cover Pitt, Beaufort, Craven, Edgecombe, Greene, Lenoir, Martin, Pamlico, Washington, Wilson, and Wayne counties. If your pickup or destination is in Eastern NC, we come to you. See the full coverage map →
What if I have an urgent or same-day need?
Call or text (252) 227-0097 directly — we answer 24/7. For same-day needs, calling gives you the fastest response. We do everything we can to accommodate urgent transport requests.
